Outline Updated

Filed under: Book — rlhamilton @ 5:33 pm

I just posted an updated outline. This update organizes the book into 4 Parts: Getting Started, Managing People, Managing Projects, and Managing Technology, plus a preface and appendices. I also ditched the cutesy names (like, “Everything you wanted to know about HR, …”), and for the most part made the titles consistently gerunds (“Becoming a Manager,” “Managing People,” etc.).

I’m also contemplating a title change to something like: Managing Documentation People, Projects, and Technology, which would shadow the Part structure.

If you have thoughts about the title or the outline, drop me a line in the comment section.

New Section: XML Technology, Part 1

Filed under: Book, Draft Section — rlhamilton @ 3:19 pm

I just posted a new section, XML Technology, Part 1. It’s the first of at least two sections that provide an overview of XML Technology for managers.

Here’s a link:XML Technology, Part 1

This section also contains a few bibliography and glossary entries, mostly to resolve links in the text. They are far from complete.

As always, comments and questions are welcome. Just use the “Leave a Comment” form at the bottom of the page.

Where’s he been?

Filed under: Administrivia — rlhamilton @ 3:11 pm

Not too far away, but it has been too long since I posted an update.

I was out for a couple of weeks on vacation, then spent some time working on a “book proposal” for prospective publishers.

But, I’m back and expect to get back on track posting new items right away.  The first order of business will be to update the  outline, which is now out of date, followed by sections on XML technology and planning.
